Preface
TSince 1967 the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague has organized every year international polymer symposia and discussion conferences, known as Prague Meetings on Macromolecules. The series continued with its 71st meeting, the 47th Microsymposium “Advanced Polymer Materials for Photonics and Electronics”, held on July 15 - 19, 2007 in the Institute. It was my great pleasure to welcome 98 scientists and students from academic and industrial institutions of 20 countries and to listen to very interesting eight main and twenty-seven special lectures. The lectures and 44 posters stimulated exciting discussions. In addition to the excellent presentations and fruitful discussions, this microsymposium has provided a platform for a valuable exchange of experience, knowledge and ideas concerning the research subjects including design, synthesis, processing and characterization of novel polymeric materials, and their applications in photonics and electronics, such as in organic light-emitting and photovoltaic devices, solar cells, organic field-effect transistors, sensors, optical waveguides, fibers and memories. I would like to thank all participants for their active contribution leading to the success of this meeting. They created not only an excellent professional forum but also a very agreeable company. I am glad to say that the goal of the microsymposium was fulfilled. Finally, I wish to express many thanks to sponsors for support of the meeting, to the organizing committee for their very good work and to the contributors for the preparation of their papers.
