COMMISSION ON CHEMICAL KINETICS (I.4)
Number: 140/6/93
Title: Evaluated Chemical Kinetic Data for Combustion
Chemistry
Coordinator(s): M.J. Pilling
Remarks: NIST, CEC Combustion Data Panel
Completion Date: 2001 - project terminated
Objective:
Global environmental pollution arises in part because of the use of
fossil fuels. A major goal of power plant and engine design is to
maximize efficiency and minimize pollutant levels. The basis for making
design changes to achieve these goals includes modeling the chemistry
at the molecular level. This requires the development of a consensus
evaluated chemical kinetics data base. Because the problem to be addressed
is international in scope, IUPAC is ideally suited to provide a mechanism
for collaboration in defining the scientific issues.
Progress:
A panel of experts has been assembled, consisting of Prof.D.L. Baulch,
Prof. C.T. Bowman, Dr. R.A. Cox, Prof. Th. Just, Prof.A. J. Kerr,
Prof. M.J. Pilling, Prof. J. Troe, Dr. W. Tsang, Prof. R.A. Walker,
and Prof. J. Warnatz. The general format for the evaluation has been
adopted: each reaction data sheet will provide the thermodynamic data
for the reaction, the experimental data, and the evaluation. Substantial
progress has been made. The initial list of reactions has been selected
and assigned to particular evaluators. Evaluation is underway and
progress will be reviewed at the first meeting of the panel to be
held in Oxford in September, 1997.
New coordinator replacing D.
Baulch; Publication is in preparation.
