Chemistry and Human Health Division (VII)

COMMISSION ON NOMENCLATURE, PROPERTIES, AND UNITS (VII.C.1)

Number: 710/28/95

Title: Nomenclature, Properties and Units of Trace Elements

Coordinator(s): X. Fuentes Arderiu and R. Cornelis

Completion Date: 1999

Objective:
Trace elements constitute an important part of toxicology, environmental sciences and clinical chemistry. However, there is not any international standard on the syntax, nomenclature and units related with the properties of trace elements. Thus, the involvement of IUPAC in the production of a recommendation on this matter will be very helpful to the scientific community.

Progress:
A report has been prepared by R. Cornelis, X. Fuentes-Arderiu, I. Bruunshuus, and D. Templeton, and entitled: 'Properties and units in the clinical laboratory sciences. IX. Properties and units in trace elements', published in:

Pure Appl. Chem. 1997 , 69, 2593 - 2606
Eur. J. Clin. Chem. Clin. Biochem 1997; 35, 833-843
Clinica Chimica Acta 1997, 268, S75 - S89
