Title: Symposium on genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food

Completion Date: 1999 - project abandoned

Objective:
To organize a Symposium on the use, occurrence and detection of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food. Issues that will be addressed include: application of GMOs - legislation - consumer concerns - analytical aspects and labelling of foods containing genetically modified material.
There is worldwide interest from health authoroties, control laboratories, consumer organizations, research institutes and the biotechnology industry in various aspects of the use of GMOs in foods and feeds. The topic is one of the strongest consumer concerns to-date and international harmonization of labelling, monitoring and legislation is urgently required.
