Biodiversity
and Natural Products
2631
January 2004, Delhi, India !!
IUPAC sponsored !!
The
International Conference on Biodiversity and Natural Products:
Chemistry and Medical Applications will be a joint meeting
of the 4th International Conference on Biodiversity and the
24th International Symposium on Chemistry of Natural Products.
Biodiversity
is a multidimensional, complex issue, which requires internationally
coordinated attention from various fields of chemical, physical,
medical, environmental, social, and life sciences. Natural
resources, and the biologically active constituents derived
from them, play vitally important roles in improving the quality
of human life. Different parts of the globe have varying endemic
biological resources, many of which are being rapidly depleted.
Thus, there is an urgent need for mutually advantageous international
cooperation in the appropriate, sustainable, and innovative
utilization of bioresources.
In
view of this situation, the University of Delhi and the Council
of Scientific and Industrial Research are jointly organizing
a conference to bring together leading experts and researchers
from all over the world to assess current ideas and research
and develop strategies for the fields listed below:
-
biodiversity and bioprospecting (genetic, molecular, and
chemical diversity; flora and fauna; herbs and spices; marine;
and microorganisms)
- innovative
utilization of bioresources (bioactive compounds from natural
sources, analytical techniques in their separation and identification,
lead generation, drug discovery and development, and drug-resistant
microbial infections)
-
integration and conservation of bioresources
-
environmental, economic, social, and ethnic perspectives
of biodiversity
- biodiversity
and traditional systems of medicine (ayurveda and sidhha)
- biodiversity
in nutrition, ecology, and cultures
-
generation of smart and novel materials, innovative technologies
in organic synthesis, environmentally benign synthetic strategies
The
participants shall include experts and researchers from around
the globe working in above areas in Universities; Government
and National Laboratories; Food, Nutrition, Flavor, Dyes,
Pharmaceutical and Agrobased Industries; and Representatives
from Communities and Policy-making Bodies.
