> Back to Calendar

by Miroslaw Luczynski

The First International Environmental Best Practices Conference was held 7-10 August 2006 at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland. More than 75 participants from around the world--including Canada, Columbia, England, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Korea, Thailand, Turkey, USA, Wales, and many other countries--attended the conference. Environmental stewardship and remediation through sustainable development were the themes of the program, and it was evident that all countries are facing similar environmental concerns related to growth, economic development, and air, land, and water quality.

Presentations included a variety of topics, such as "Drainage Component in Water Balance of Alluvial Soils," "Constructed Wetlands and Vegetation Filters: An Ecological Approach to Wastewater Treatment," "The Role of Bacteria in the Input, Transformation, and Loss of Nitrogen from Soils: Potential and Pitfalls," "Mechanical Biological Pretreatment of Municipal Solid Waste," Petroleum in the Environment: What Happens to it When it Disappears," and "Toxicological Interactions between Environmental Pollutants: Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons."

Requests for abstracts or any other related publications should be sent to the author.
