Objective:
To review the state of the art, to identify and prioritize research
needs and to facilitate risk assessment and communication. A comprehensive
evaluation of the issue of endocrine active substances will constitute
an extension to the previous report
PAC 70(9), 1998. It is hoped that such document will
be of great help to public authorities, industry and the public
in framing policies to address the issue.
Description:
The project originates from the SCOPE/IUPAC joint meeting in February
1997 to more closely collaborate with each other. At the 10th SCOPE
General Assembly in Piscataway, USA, in June 1998, the endocrine
disrupter was adopted as one of such collaborative trials, with
J. Miyamoto representing IUPAC asked to be proposant of the project.
It intends to widen and to deepen the aspects dealt with in Special
Issues on Natural and Anthropogenic Environmental Estrogens published
in Pure
and Applied Chemistry
Vol. 70, No. 9 (1998), and to present scientifically most authoritative
views on the endocrine disrupter problems by incorporating the latest
findings.
In each of the five topics identified (see progress
section below), subtopics are envisaged to select most significant
and urgent subjects to help solve the burning issues.
